Men's and Women's Ministries

Men and women play an equally vital role in the life of the APC congregation.  There are many opportunities for both men and women to lead and serve in our church and our community.  We also offer both men's and women's Bible studies, as well as bi-annual men's and women's retreats.  And for the women, the quarterly TableTalk fellowship dinners are a great way to meet other women and build relationships.

Adult Education

APC offers a wide variety of educational opportunities for adults of all ages and stages of their Christian faith:

Sonship:
Sonship, a 16-week course developed by World Harvest Mission, goes a step beyond the adult Sunday School classes, combining group lecture and small group discussion as it examines our justification and adoption as sons and daughters of God. In a very practical way, this course focuses on what it means to live each day as a child of God.

Many of us understand the faith intellectually, but our hearts have not quite kept up with our heads.  Sonship is designed to help you take some of the glorious theological truths of the gospel -- truths that you may know in your head -- and apply them to the nitty gritty reality of daily life.  You'll find that as the gospel re-makes you, there is greater joy and desire to share the wonderful news of God's lovingkindness with others.

Sonship is offered at APC once each year, beginning in January and running for 16 weeks (not including breaks for Easter and SuperBowl Sunday). There is no cost to APC members for course materials.   Childcare is provided, and both the children's Explorers ministry and the teen's Protas ministry meet at the same time as Sonship. For more information or to register for this course, contact the church office.

Additional information about Sonship can be found at World Harvest Mission.

Sunday School:
Adult Sunday School classes are held on a quarter system, with class options changing four times per year. Class descriptions are listed below. You may visit any class at any time during the quarter.

Summer Quarter (June 13—August 29, 2010)

Study Hall—An Overview of Scripture and Theology

Led by Deacon Chris Sicks
Chris Sicks is preparing for his ordination exams this summer, so he’s inviting you to study with him. We’ll trace the themes of Kingdom, Covenant and Christ through the Old and New Testaments, seeing how God rules, rescues and restores the world and his people. We will also review some key topics in theology: the doctrines of God, Humankind, Salvation and Revelation; law and gospel; the five points of Calvinism; and more.

Revelation—The Gospel in Pictures
Led by Elder Lee Beckham
The books of the Bible don’t come with pictures, but this last book of the New Testament is filled with images and symbols that have both delighted and puzzled readers for centuries. This class will present a Reformed perspective on the book, beginning with an overview of its themes and characteristics, and then examining each of the seven visions that make up the book. “More Than Conquerors” by William Hendriksen is an excellent companion text for the class.

Wisdom Enters the Heart
Led by Elder Marc Allen
A Study of select chapters from the book of Proverbs. From first to last, Proverbs offers the reader wisdom and guidance for life and for righteousness. Repeatedly, the Lord instructs us in Proverbs that this wisdom is to enter our hearts. That instruction reveals our own misconceptions of wisdom, which we so often think about instead as being for the mind alone. In sorting through the fact that wisdom is for the heart, there is much to learn about the character of God and the way of life that he holds out to us.

A Deeper Dive
Led by Pastor Tom Holliday
Here’s your opportunity to marinate in the morning’s pulpit message. Pastor Holliday will moderate. Get more of his insights, share some of your own, ask that question that came to you during the sermon, discuss further applications of the Bible message in day-to-day life. A great way to dip your toe in the Sunday School pond, and get assistance in making the sermons a bigger part of your life.
