We are pleased to welcome to the pulpit Rev. Dr. Tom Tarrants. Tom is DIrector of Ministry at the C.S. Lewis Institute in the Washington, DC area. He has lived in the Washington area since 1978 and served in campus ministry and pastoral ministry prior to coming to the C.S. Lewis Institute in 1998. The focus of his ministry has been preaching, teaching and biblical discipleship. His doctoral studies were in Christian Spirituality. Tom attends The Falls Church (Anglican).
Bi-Monthly Congregational Prayer Meeting—Schedule Change: For September, the meeting that is normally scheduled for the first Saturday of the month, has been moved to the second Saturday, September 11th. Please join your elders from 9-10am that morning for a time of prayer.
The APC Choir is Looking for Singers: If you have the gift of singing, are a believer, 13 yrs or older, and desire to help lead in worship, please prayerfully consider joining the adult choir. We currently have a need for all voice parts, but esp. tenors and basses. We rehearse Wed evenings 7:30-9:15pm, Sept-May, and sing in the morning worship services and two special services (Christmas and Easter) each year. No audition necessary. The choir retreat begins our year of ministry Sept 17-18. New members, please sign up at the Info Booth. Questions, contact Gale Manor.
New Handchimes Group Forming: If you have music reading capabilities and a desire to exercise your musical gifts without singing, consider participating in a handchimes group. They’re easier to play than you might think! We’re looking for up to 12 new players to perform musical offerings and also accompany the youth choir on occasion. Our first piece this fall will be an arrangement of the Pachelbel Cannon. Please respond by 9/16 to Leonor Lee. Teenagers and homeschoolers welcome.
APC Officer Training Class Begins September 7: Each Fall, APC offers this class for any man willing to consider being nominated in the future for the office of deacon or elder. This class is a prerequisite for becoming an elder or deacon, although taking the class does not obligate you to stand for election. The class will meet for seven consecutive Tuesday evenings, starting at 7:30pm. Please notify the church office if you are interested in attending, or feel free to contact any elder for more information. Please note: the second week will take place on Wednesday, September 15 (not Tuesday).
Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study Resumes September 16: This women’s study begins on 9/16 and meets every week at the church from 10:00-11:30am. Staci Root will be leading us through a study of Ephesians—building a foundation in the gospel, applying the gospel to our daily life, and encouraging one another in the process. So that we can plan for study materials and free childcare, please sign up at the info booth. Questions, contact Lynn Streett.
Friday Morning Women’s Bible Study Resumes September 17: This women’s study begins again on 9/17 with Tom Holliday teaching on the book, “Encouragement, the Key to Caring.” Subsequent dates for the study are Oct 1, 15, 29, Nov 12, and Dec 3. We meet for a time of fellowship at 9:30am with the study at 10:00am. Childcare provided. Sign up at the Info Booth; questions, contact Dottie Palmer.

Annual Church Picnic—September 26: Join the whole APC family for an afternoon of food, games and fun at Fort Hunt Park near Mt. Vernon. We’ll have horseshoes, bocce ball, softball, volleyball, games for children, good food and fellowship. And, plan to gather around the fireplace for an Old-Fashioned Hymn sing. Things will get started at 2pm and go until 6pm (food served 3-5pm, hymn sing 5pm). We’ll be in Area A. Everyone is asked to bring a dessert or a side dish to share.
