As a community, we value and encourage everyone to discover the joy and the reward of helping others through service. If you’d like to get involved, please contact us today! Here are some ways to serve:

Urgent Needs

Urgent Worship Service Help

Volunteers needed for worship:

Greeters: 6-8 volunteers needed; Contact Matt Coombs at [email protected]

Ushers: 10 volunteers needed; Contact Marc Smith at [email protected]

Urgent PROTAS/Youth Volunteers

Please consider coming alongside teenagers in just one of the many different opportunities: PROTAS large group, our new upcoming Sunday morning “connect time” between services (2x per month), host or co-lead a regional discipleship group, come alongside just one teenager who needs a mentor, or introduce teenagers to Jesus through Young Life. Contact Adam LeRoy, Director of Youth Ministries, at [email protected]

Urgent Nursery Volunteers

The nursery is an important ministry to our littlest ones. Volunteers typically help out one worship service per quarter. Contact: Erin Furgerson, Director of Children’s Ministries, or the APC office.

Urgent Hospitality

Being on the hospitality team is a great way to serve our church family while helping events run smoothly! No experience is required.

Urgent Audio

The audio ministry requires a heart for ministry, a technical mind, and an ear for music. Volunteers run sound once a month on Sundays and possibly serve for special services.

Outreach

Transportation Ministry

Transportation Ministry. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to use their personal vehicle to transport others as needed. The majority of the need has been to help bring seniors to church and back on Sunday mornings. Occasionally, there are other needs such as bringing people to special evening church services (such as around Thanksgiving or Christmas) or to help get someone to an appointment. There is a running calendar showing the ongoing needs and which requirements are still open for volunteers.  Sign up at the link below. For specific questions, please check with APC’s transportation coordinator, Bill Ward at [email protected] or phone: 571-331-8529.

African Refugee Outreach

APC has welcomed more than two dozen refugees into our congregation. Most are from Africa — men and women fleeing political and religious persecution. It is a tremendous mutual blessing to worship together, and to serve these new Americans as they learn English, seek employment and endeavor to reunite with family members who are often left behind.

Evangelism

APC seeks to fulfill the Great Commission by providing our members with evangelistic training and the necessary resources to effectively present the gospel. For more information on how you can become involved in various evangelistic events and opportunities throughout the year, contact the church office.

Adults & Seniors

Communion Setup Volunteers

Are you interested in preparing the elements for APC’s monthly celebration of the Lord’s Table?  All the elements are on hand, and your role would be to prepare them for service.

Social Committee

Community requires connection, and the Social Committee’s role is to foster that connection by dreaming up and planning fun events for the whole church. The committee typically meets 4-6 times per year to enjoy a great meal and plan events big and small.

Intercessory Prayer Team

APC has a small group of men and women who are committed to praying regularly for our church: our pastors, those in leadership positions, our various ministries and outreach efforts, members of our congregation, and our building. Contact Pastor Tom if you would like to learn more or serve on this important team.

Bi-Monthly Prayer Meetings

A corporate prayer time takes place the second Saturday (9-10am) and the fourth Sunday (5-6pm) of each month.

Sunday Morning Prayer

Folks gather every Sunday morning at 8:00am in the Chapel at Russell Road for a time of prayer prior to the worship service.

Sunday Pre-Service Prayer Meeting

Please consider joining us at 8:00am Sunday mornings for a pre-service prayer meeting via Zoom or in-person in the chapel. See the weekly APC email for the meeting link or contact the church office for the Zoom link.

Seniors Ministry

APC is a welcoming community of believers to those who face the physical challenges of aging. On Sunday mornings, our Seniors Ministry offers transportation for individuals as well as those at the Lincolnian Assisted Living residences. The church’s Sunday morning worship service begins at 8:45 AM and concludes a little after 10 AM. Although wearing masks is now optional, there is a large section of pews that are designated as a “mask only” area.  Following the service, there are light refreshments served in the Fellowship Hall found on the basement level (stair access only).  We also provide a Bible study on Saturdays to the residents at the Lincolnian, and have sponsored Christmas gifts and special programs for the residents. Volunteers to assist in this ministry are always welcome.

Children & Students

Manna Ministry

This ministry provides meals to those with short-term needs, such as a death in family, injury or illness, surgery, new baby, etc. Contact the church office to volunteer or to receive assistance.

Ushers

As an usher, you help the Deacons collect tithes and offerings and give a big smile to the folks in the pews as you pass the collection bags.

Coffee Ministry

The Coffee Ministry serves light refreshments each Sunday during fellowship time. We need new team members to serve on teams of four. Likely, you will only be scheduled one Sunday per quarter.

Greeters

Greeters assure that members, regular attendees, and every person who visits APC are warmly welcomed at each service. They also assure that visitors receive information about the church and ministry opportunities. Greeters are scheduled in teams of 4-5 people for 2 weeks at a time, typically 2-3 times a year.

Fellowship Hall Reset

We are in need of volunteers who are willing to reset the Fellowship Hall after Sunday School, in preparation for Sunday night ministries. This typically takes 10-15 minutes each Sunday, and involves putting all chairs and tables back into the storage room. It’s quick, it’s easy, and could use your leadership.

Arts & Technology

Urgent Audio

The audio ministry requires a heart for ministry, a technical mind, and an ear for music. Volunteers run sound once a month on Sundays and possibly serve for special services.

Photography

Photographs of APC events are desired for the newsletter, Facebook, videos, etc. and require a photographer with an artistic sense and their own equipment.

Music

We are a church that highly values music! There are many ways to get involved, including adult and youth choirs, worship team, and special services.

Manna Meals: A Meaningful Ministry at APC

The Manna Meals ministry coordinates meals to APC’ers who have recently had babies, are experiencing illness, or going through other significant life events. If you’ve ever been the recipient of these meals, you know they are a great blessing in a time of need! This is a tangible and meaningful way to minister to the APC family.

Over this past year, in spite of the challenges of Covid, 16 families have received weeks worth of meals in their time of need through this ministry. We want to say a huge thank you to each person who has demonstrated Christ’s love through loving their fellow brothers and sister in this way!

“Our family received Manna Meals after the birth of our son, and it was a huge help during a time where we felt overwhelmed. It was such a treat to have delicious dinners provided so that we didn’t have spend time cooking during those first weeks. We felt so loved and encouraged by our APC family!”

Use your gifts to serve on our music ministry teams.

At APC, we have members from a wide range of backgrounds, so we offer a blended style of worship that incorporates contemporary worship songs, traditional hymns and music from other traditions.

Serve with us around the world.

Engagement in Missions is an integral part of the life and ministry of Alexandria Presbyterian Church. Within the first year of APC’s founding, the congregation began supporting a missionary family serving abroad. That commitment to support those in the mission field has deepened over the years through steady financial support, regular communication and prayer.
