In his role at APC, Josh oversees Covenant Fellowship Groups, men’s and women’s ministries, and missions.

Joel Acevedo

Pastor of International Outreach and Mercy

Joel and Gladys were born in Chile. At the age of twelve, Joel went to live with a missionary family, Walter and Mary Cross. It was during these difficult years that he heard the Gospel and came to know Christ. Joel and Gladys met on the mission field and were married in January of 1989. In 1997, the couple went to Paraguay to plant a church, sent by a local Presbyterian church in Chile. In Asunción, they planted a growing church, a ministry that, after six years, was transferred to the local session. Joel subsequently pastored Gracia y Paz under APC (2004-2017) and recently led the Hispanic ministry for five and a half years under Briarwood PCA in Birmingham, Alabama (2018-2023 – Briarwood Español). Joel earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Paraguay and a Master’s Degree in the USA. Gladys is a 2nd-grade teacher who worked at Word of Life Christian Academy in Springfield, VA for 10 years. This fall, she will be returning to work there again.

Ben Elliott

Director of Music Ministries

Ben delights in using song to encourage the gathered church to behold and exalt the glory of God, revealed in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. A native of Fishersville in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, he served as pianist of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, VA and helped lead music for five years at Hope Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, IN before coming to APC.

Ben holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in piano performance from Indiana University, where he worked as an associate instructor, collaborated regularly with the choral and ballet departments, accompanied numerous singers and instrumentalists, and additionally studied mathematics and the pipe organ. He enjoys practicing, reading, playing soccer, hiking, and supporting the sports teams of IU (with his colleagues) and Pittsburgh (with his extended family).

Erin Furgerson

Director of Children's Ministries

As Director of Children’s Ministry, Erin desires to partner with parents as we teach our covenant children about Jesus.  Relying on the Holy Spirit, we disciple our children as their understanding grows. Erin is eager to equip parents, teachers, and volunteers to teach our littlest through elementary-aged children about God’s extraordinary love and model what it looks like to love Him and love others because of the gospel.

Erin loves children, reading, and a cup of good strong tea, as well as kayaking and exploring with her husband, Ryan, and son, Graeme.

Adam LeRoy

Director of Youth Ministries

Adam oversees APC’s ministry of bringing the light of the gospel to teenagers, both inside the APC family and in our surrounding community.  He desires to see a growing community of teenagers trusting in Jesus and being transformed in the places where they are hurting most, right where they are, just as they are!

God has been opening doors for Adam to work with teens since his college years at JMU, and he has been on staff at APC since 2005.  Adam and his wife Laurie were married in 2001, started attending APC in 2002, and have five children — Mella, Dante, Brody, Asa, and Miles.  They are both blessed to be in service to the King here in Alexandria!

You might find Adam passionately managing one of his boys’ baseball teams, whistling/tapping along to music while he works (on good days), packing his car up to the brim at Costco, or soaking in as much summer sunshine as he is able.

Jackie McCauley

Congregational Care and Safety Policy Monitor

Jackie and her husband Aaron have enjoyed being a part of God’s family at APC since 2015. Giving attention to the safety of vulnerable individuals is something God called Jackie to at a young age as the oldest of 6 children; a Sunday school teacher, children’s museum volunteer, and swim instructor as a teen; kids camp director and home health aide as a young adult; a trauma emergency nurse for her chosen career; and most recently, the mother of three growing kids. She is grateful to serve her APC family as Congregational Care and Safety Monitor.

Bailey Rolland

Church Administrator

Bailey grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina but moved to North Carolina to attend Western Carolina University. Bailey met her husband, Joey, at Western’s Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) ministry. They married (and graduated) in May of 2021 and moved to the DC area. Bailey loves to read, hike and visit museums. She also loves to play with her and Joey’s cat, Smokey. Bailey is very excited to be on staff at APC!

Andrea Romyn

Hospitality Coordinator

An Alexandria native, Andrea has called APC her home church since she was a young teen. She, along with her husband Justin Stephens whom she met in APC’s youth group, attended Covenant College while living in Chattanooga, TN. They returned to Alexandria in 2009, and together they have three children, Emmett, Phoebe, and Ransom. They are blessed to be one of a number of families at APC who enjoy three generations worshiping together.

With a background in catering and events Andrea  loves to plan a party, but believes that hospitality goes well beyond menus and decorating. She feels passionately that it is the call of every Christian to extend biblical hospitality to both the stranger and to those in our church family. It is her desire to help foster a community where everyone serves one another joyfully, where “They’ll know we are Christians by our love”.

Andrea enjoys making all the things, living on the East Coast, road trips with the fam, hoarding vintage Christmas decor, and spending time with her large local extended family. She loves to talk about sunscreen, the Tudor period is her Roman Empire, and she never turns down a good podcast recommendation.
